Out of the 108 server that were being hosted a while ago, only 4 had the game mode 1-life Demolition and those 4 servers were empty. I think that what makes this game mode so unpopular is its similarity to Deathmatch as well as the fact that the rounds go so quick. Its a lot easier to win in Demolition by killing all players of the team, then by planting a bomb. Something that would make Demolition more interesting would be eliminating the 1-life part but only for the Defenders in a way kinda like super mario bros.wii The Defenders will have unlimited spawning as long as, at least one player of the team is alive. This would prolong the rounds and maybe make the game more interesting. The only way you could win, other than planting a bomb, would be by killing the whole Defenders team all at the same time. The main reason i believe this "conditional unlimited spawning" should only apply to the Defenders is because it would force the Infiltrators to focus on planting the bomb rather then to focus on killing the opposing team. This hopefully would encourage more strategy to be used on both the defenders and infiltrators.

If you diffuse a bomb... Then you revive the teammate who has been dead the longest (just copying off of the dodgeball game I played in RL).
But then everyone would just drop bombs :( I've never played a demolition game before.

they wouldnt because it would make the infiltrators use more strategy and would be more careful in what they do. also, sides get switched usuallly every 2 rounds(default)
or fine maybe if both teams get the "conditional unlimited spawning" it would be better cause it would eliminate the Deathmatch out of it.

I agree it needs some reworking, though I'm not sure your solution is the right one. I'm guessing the developers know it needs some tweaking and that's why it's not on any of the official servers.

You could always go with something like the headquarters mode from CoD, but fitted to this game mode:
- Both teams initially respawn normally
- Defender respawns are much slower than the attacker respawns
- After planting the bomb, the attacking team stops respawning. Bomb timer is a bit longer than currently and also takes longer to defuse.
- Keep the short round lengths so the attackers have pressure to get in and plant the bomb asap.
I dunno, might just be a confusing mess, but I definitely would love to see this mode get revisited. I personally think that with some better maps and more attention that it could be better than 1dm at least.

I agree. I think it has a lot of potential and as you pointed out, correctly designed maps will have a huge impact to whether the game mode plays well or not. For example, on the current maps it's very easy for the defenders to patrol all bases. It's never going to be surprising where the bomb is being planted.
I think your list of suggestions might work.
Maybe even turrets could be worked in; either as static base defense that needs to be destroyed before a bomb can be safely planted, or as secondary targets.
As it is now, it's essentially just a deathmatch since regardless of which team wins the round, it almost always ends in one team being completely dead without the bomb even exploding.
