I would pay another $10 for this, even a simplified version that looks like Biplanes.

Java should run on Droid just fine since it's Linux based, shouldn't it? At least it should on Maebo. Issue might be with controls..

Yeah, ive thought the same thing. you could even use tilt controls for steering, and use buttons for s,d,and f. that would be sick. you might be at a disadvantage playing though..

Both phones are very well capable, the problem comes with online gaming experience as the phones will suffer from major latency issues when not played on wifi (even then probably some issues).

I would not mind playing against bots one bit as long as it is on my Droid :D

While I agree that playing altitude at work on android would be freaking amazing there are two large issues.

First, I'd be curious if the phones are really up to the task of running alt. They have certainly improved substantially, but alt is a deceptively complex program, especially when running some of the complex maps.

Second, I believe lammy's old job was making phone games and he'd probably throw up upon hearing this suggestion.

Yeah I have installed a few full 3D games on my Droid and they run super smooth, 30-40 fps. I dunno about the iPhone but I am confident that the Droid would run the current full version of Altitude. Not to mention a lite version for mobile use. Also, I run altitude without a graphics card without anything turned off or turned down and I never experience the slightest shutter in fps. I know the refresh rate would be no prob, but I am not sure of the network capabilities yet. Single player would be just fine though. The app wouldn't need a lot of content, just a few maps and bots with adjustable difficulty. I don't know how much work would have to go into a project like this, I will just assume a lot.

Edit: Just ran a speedtest on my Droid - 600k down, 450k up 268 ping to Wichita (no idea why it used this server lol) from Minneapolis - about 650 miles. This was at about half bars for 3G coverage. Im gonna try again outside over a cigarette and see what I get.
-Ok ping outside was about 250 with 800k up and down at 1/2-3/4 3G coverage. I will try again tomorrow with full bars.

Problem with iphone might be the resolution.
480x320

The Droid has an amazing 854x480.

I would like it for playing just against bots, but I'd only want to spend like $5 for that.
It'd probably do well as a cash grab since Droid is essentially Linux, Java runs on Linux, Altitude runs on Java. Post it up on some phone blogs, android blogs, and people would eat up a game of this quality. Iphone is flooded with crap apps, it'd get less attention.

I believe the Android and Iphone processor is plenty fast. Both the same ARM 500mhz that runs 2 processes per clock I believe. Twice as fast as the G1, My Touch, HTC Hero. Doesn't sound like much, but they're not running 1920x1200 res.

So I downloaded alt for linux on my droid and I am kind of stuck there lol cant figure out how to open it or get it to install. I have one other idea which is trying to get java installed on here and attempt to launch the alt browser client. If I can't get this to work I am going to have to root it and go from there. If anyone has info on this let me know.
