Go to New England Maze Exploration.
So. Here's the ultimate concept: every day, a server updates with a newly generated random maze. The goal is to find your team bomb and destroy the enemy base. Once the base is destroyed, you can see the secret code beneath the base, and you can enter this code into a website that keeps track of how many wins you have and displays a ranking per month or something.
What we have so far, we meaning Wyse and I, and really meaning Wyse, is the ability to generate random maze maps which have bases and bombs and spawns that are a certain maze-distance away from the enemy base.
Check it out on the server.
At the moment, the image is the first hit on google for random word "boat." We haven't yet implemented a system for retrieving images to use, and the whole image thing shall be changed. (Personally, I think putting lolcats at the end of particularly long dead ends would be good).
So take a look at what Wyse has done so far, and give us your feedback on our plans.

i tried this. cool concept. a few things:
1. the map is kinda too big. not that i think you should have less paths, rather, i think the hallways should be narrower so that you can cover more space in the same amount of time assuming a constant speed. lots of time was spent just watching my loopy slowwwly trudging straight up on a long pathway with afterburners furiously burning, and not enough time actually exploring.
2. make it so that one bomb hit kills the base. it's fun to look for the base and then the bomb and bringing them together. not so much fun doing that 3x while trying to remember the paths you took.
3. get rid of the bots. i brought the bomb to the base twice and had double gold bars, and then went back to the bomb again, got it, and then got shot down by a bot. the amount of anger i felt at that moment stopped me from going back again to run the bomb a third time to actually finish the base off =(

The bots seem to have a huge advantage because they can "see" you before you can see them. Getting rid of them might make the whole thing rather boring, so I suggest instead adding fast spawning health packs in various locations.
If you add a ball where the base is, hidden or behind the base or something so it can't be picked up, the player would have an indication as to which direction they should be heading. This is just an idea. You might not want to make it that easy! Maybe add a misleading ball too...

This was fun. I need a new maze though, I have this memorized :).

Vi and I have posted a new map-of-the-day. This one is smaller (10x5 instead of 10x10), and has faster planes (by changing the scales). But most importantly, the map walls are now made from 10 images automatically downloaded (legally) from Flickr: the top 10 in a search for the keyword of the day, "socks".
Thanks for all the feedback, and keep it coming! We have a lot of ideas for future features but give us time to work them out.

Today's map is 12x8, with twenty Flickr images for the word 'cookie'. Yum!
We hear the desire to get codewords for your effort and track your prowess. I guess we'll add that next.

1. We fixed this! Now you feel like you move much faster.
2. Unfortunately we can't. Base health is non-configurable.
3. I agree old expert bots were too evil, so we changed them to easy. Now they're not a threat, but still provide atmosphere.

I like the indicator idea. You can't add a ball to a TBD map, but we're thinking of implementing a Ball version that would have this, as well as a FFA version that would have its own style.
So I thought yesterday's map with image search term "sock" was the peak of ridiculousness, but today's "cookie" really takes the cake because there are images of LOBSTER COOKIES. My mind is seriously blown.

I like this ALOT but can you make it bouncy?
Don't get me wrong, going fullspeed and crashing into deadends is hilarious. But crashing into deadends and having to restart is not.

What about making them 1BD? That would make it so the base is one hit killed.

We've thought about this. The problem is that as soon as all the bots on the other team crash, which happens pretty quickly, or the people on the other team, which happens even quicker, the game ends. In casual maze play, it would be impossible, and more time would be spent on the award screen than in game =P
Now, if we implemented a competitive version where two teams compete in a never-before-seen team-symmetric maze, tournament-style, then 1bd might be awesome! Though tbd might still be better.
I like this ALOT but can you make it bouncy?
Think of it as a flying-challenge obstacle course! Having to choose between speed and safety adds to the skill. Or something. I may be a little bitter about bouncy servers at the moment =\
Anyway, keep the feedback and suggestions coming! And as long as you're posting, if you have an idea for an arbitrary word to put into the flickr image grabber, I'm open to suggestions (until we implement a word list or some other automatic way of grabbing words).

There's a trend where purple has had it easier than azure on every map so far :D. Just sayin'

;] we'd make it symmetric if we ever did something team-competitive. In the mean time it's nice to get two different maze challenges for one low low price!
Today we coded up the ability to rotate our squares, as evidenced by today's map with image search term 'marmalade'. Soon we hope to be able to rotate the whole map. We'd also like to be able to make rounded corners, which you'll appreciate if you try today's.

Today's map is brought to you by the word 'fox' and the dimensions 15x6. The stars were aligned for this randomly generated maze, as illustrated by this image:

isnt this like that garuda "Fun Server" or something? That we must follow this long path and get "prizes" at the end of the map, in this case it was lucky charm cereal. it was fun tho

So I implemented map rotation, which puts the whole map at 45 degrees (no jagged edges), which means so vertical inclines. Today's map is 8x8, keyword 'circle'. Purple is easier than Azure.

Some progress: I've now totally automated the map generation, export, upload, and server restart. So assuming all goes well, you should get a brand new randomly generated maze around 5am Eastern every day (possibly later because it tries to wait for all New England servers to be empty). Settings are basic for now (10x8, random noun for images), but will be varied randomly soon. Sorry, still no codes under the bases...

There comes a time when we must cut some corners... off maze tiles!
405
The daily automagic maze generator now selects among a bunch of different rotation options, and randomly chooses whether to use octagons.

Python.
So today is the best Christmas ever. I got hello kitty accessories. And then, I saw today's map. Randomness, or fate?
