Hey Guys,
As I now have control on the wiki (mwahahaha) I've been perusing the forums and haven't quite been able to come to a consensus on where to find some decent tips for new players.
So here's the deal:
You submit a tip on here, no longer than fifty (50) words.
I will then choose the ten (10) best tips to go onto the wiki page with your name and an image of your flying plane next to it.
One (1) entry will be selected MAXIMUM per player.
I believe as well as providing handy hints to others, you will be promoting both yourself as a prominent member of the community, but as well as showing that there is a range of involvement in both players and planes (entries will not be judged upon the planes)
This challenge closes strictly midnight on the 25th January AUSTRALIAN EST (which means early Monday Morning on the 25th for most of you)
Remember, keep it short, sweet and make sure its the plane truth!!!!
Good luck!
Vogez
EDIT: To answer questions below, one liners are probably better but short two and three liners that are still punchy can be very informative.
And for updating the wiki, if you have any other information you would like to add, PM it to Pieface or Myself and we can upload it on for you.

November? lol
Anyway the best thing is to just link the guides in the forum to the planes so people that don't frequent the forum get to read them.

CHeers for the correction - stuck in a time loop I think =D
Yes that too but we also want a quick, catchy page with those few vital pointers too :)

Hm, do you need an account to add stuff to the wiki or something? I'd like to add a bit on the loopy/maybe other planes when Im procrastinating :E
As for a tip.. are you looking for like one-liners or a bit more lengthy or what? I'd say probably the #1 tip for newbies is to learn to fly first, then worry about aiming later, but it's a very short tip : p

1. Altitude has a learning curve, but the rewards of being a skilled player are great. Use the spectate feature (press 't' to choose a team and then click Spectate) to watch experienced players and see how they fly, kill/survive, etc.
2. As a new player, the forums are a great place to learn tips, discuss gameplay, and get help. Make sure to register and then enable private message email notification. You can also subscribe to threads that interest you.
3. Try different modes, such as TBD, BALL, and TDM. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses with respect to skill and strategy, but doing so will make you a more rounded player.
4. Once you get a feel for a certain plane -- and no longer crash into walls quite as often -- challenge yourself by playing against higher level players. You won't win at first, but you will improve more this way.
5. Remember that the other planes on the screen are controlled by real people. As much as possible, be polite, helpful, and honest. It sounds silly, but those attributes contribute to a better game and a better community.
6. Those {}, [], etc. "clan tags" designate players that have joined a clan. Clans are organizations within Altitude that often play in league tournaments, or specialize in a certain mode (e.g. TBD, BALL). To join, read the clan's forum thread to get an idea about who they are, and then talk to a current member.
7. Consider waiting a few weeks/months before posting in the forums. It's easy as a new player to think you have the best suggestion for a new plane/perk, but most likely someone has already suggested it, or else it's simply not a good idea and people may not take you seriously. Once you have leveled up a bit and seen more of the game, you'll have a better sense of what might be a good addition to Altitude.

1. When bomb running with the Miranda by using the energy conservation you can store your energy for crucial moments to burst by the enemy's defense with your dash.

1. With the Miranda energy management is crucial because the more energy you have the faster it recharges. By understanding this you can actually get more dashes by letting your energy recharge and then dashing then by just holding dash constantly. It would also be wise to not fly around with your shot always charged as it eats up a portion of your energy, leaving you with less dashes and a longer energy recharge time. This energy conservation leads to an overall more effective Miranda.

Will add more as I think of them.
What? It's true that keeping a charge prevents energy stored from reaching 100%, and the energy replenishes at a slower rate while holding a charge, up to this threshold. But most of what you said is either ignorance, bull****, terrible use of English or a magical trifecta.

What Kuja said isn't true - see Lamster's post below.
Note, however, that even if what Kuja said isn't true it's still better to play it conservatively because having no energy on the randa is pretty much death.
For more tips and tricks about the randa check out my time anchor guide or other randa guides in the guides section :)

the more energy you have on the Miranda the faster it regenerates.
This is not true under any circumstance (or if it is -- it's a bug that I cannot reproduce). I do agree, however, that playing conservative with Miranda's energy (and generally not running around holding a charge all the time) is often the best play :)

Has this changed at all since the Miranda has been around? If not, then I guess that's my mistake. When I tested this I got a difference but perhaps the timing method was poor or there were other factors. Thanks for letting us know.
Edit: The wiki should also be updated because that's where I originally found out about this and have conducted my play style accordingly.

It's conceivable that there was a patch long ago with broken energy regen, but I kind of doubt it. It's extremely hard to time by hand but I've tested it in code (sanity check, to debunk this rumor) and the results appear conclusive.

*nods* Of course timing by hand is difficult. When I did it I tried with multiple people and multiple trials but, as you said, if it's not in the code then there must have been some other problem with my testing method. I doubt that there would have been a bug in the energy regen in some patch awhile ago so it's prolly just a simple mistake on my part.

the less energy->lower recharge rate might not be true, but does using the reverse (or time anchor) for miranda change the recharge rate? since you are able to reverse the miranda at 0 energy, i was under the impression that there was some additional tradeoff cost to doing that. was it just an increase in the cooldown of reverse, or does it affect recharge rate?
if this is the case then it might be prudent to manage your energy for the miranda so that you don't reverse when you are low on energy.

Short tips r best!
1. Press tab to see which enemy planes are dead (they will be covered with a red X). When lots of enemies are dead is the best time to bomb their base!
2. The Loopy's EMP is actually a more powerful weapon than its primary gun. Learn to use it well.
3. Heavy Armor is probably the best Loopy green perk. With it you won't die to many of the other planes' kill-moves, like two Heavy Cannon shots.
4. Stay away from Ace Instincts, Reverse Thruster, & Rubber Hull until you've mastered the basic game.

I think theres like an increasing cooldown on reverse, so if you use it while it's on cooldown, the next one will be even longer up until the point where youre at 0 energy and you wont be reversing until the next ice age. But dont quote me on that O_o
Tip: Explodet mines, Explodet missiles, Bomber grenades and Bomber tailgun do direct damage + splash damage. The splash will also hurt you(but not your allies).
Oh and rofl at the rubber tip. Next Altitude fotm incoming?

When you are a pro player Rubber Hull has some (very) situational uses.
When you are a nub player Rubber Hull just keeps you from learning to fly and to use the other green perks.
I see recent game purchasers flying Loopy, Biplane or even Miranda with Rubber Hull, sometimes even on bouncy servers, so I thought this tip was useful. The quicker a player abandons RH the quicker he learns.

If you'd like to help out with the Wiki more than just suggesting changes, PM Maimer or me and we'll set you up with a wiki account. My personal belief (echoed by Wikipedia) is that the more people we have editing it, the higher the quality of the writing becomes. So if you'd be interested in helping out, we'd love to have you!
As to the contest itself, there are a lot of really good tips here. Could we maybe consider selecting more than ten tips to put on the Wiki, and perhaps more than one per player if they're good enough? I don't see any reason to not include a lot of tips if they include sound, good advice.

-The Friend List is a wonderful tool if you don't overuse it. Try to reserve requests for people who regularly beat you. By joining servers with them, you'll be constantly pushing yourself to get better.
-On TBD, destroying turrets IS a valid strategy. But until you've spent at least a week at level 60, chances are you won't be going about it right and will instead be wasting your effort.

If you try to use reverse while having insufficient energy, you will use whatever energy you have and the cooldown will be slightly longer following this special case reverse.
The extra length of the cooldown is proportional to the energy you didn't have. Example: reverse requires 40 energy, you try to reverse with 20, the cooldown is 1.5x as long. Reverse requires 40 energy, you try to reverse with 0, the cooldown is 2x as long. The numbers honestly make it sound more confusing than it is - it ends up being fairly intuitive after a while.

With the Explodet, A team in TBD and BALL, can easily defend if their is two or more Explodets that drop mines around the base or areas were a Bomb could be dropped from. This is best done when it is a 6v6, 2-3 defend, while the remaining attack the opponents' base.
Make sure you always have enough energy to defend yourself, NEVER use full thrust, save when trying to escape enemy planes, always keep some energy reserve, if you get attacked, you have no energy, and will die easily.
In BALL it is easy to defend the base, get a "wall" or a plane, right in front of the base, The plane will either catch the ball, or the wall will prevent the ball from going in the goal!
With Loopy, never just shoot randomly, the loopy is really Powerful with Acid and Double Rockets, but never waste your energy by shooting out randomly, you make yourself and easier target, hence the enemy can swipe down on you and kill you very easily, if most of your energy is gone.

If you want to avoid dying, be going as fast as possible all the time. Don't camp an area waiting for a powerup by circling it. Never circle in the open waiting for people to show up. If you use reverse, never slowly transition from forward to reverse in the open, that's sitting still and asking for someone to fly in and kill you.
Always attack from above when you can. It puts gravity on your side, which can never be a bad thing.
Don't fire missiles when your belly is right next to a surface, it'll hit the surface and damage you.
Always assume you're the only person smart enough to consider the objective, unless you're actually in a competitive match with your own team. Don't just hope some other player will defend the base when the bomb is coming.
