$E IS NOT IN MINOR LEAGUE. I AM JUST RUNNING IT.

WE HAVE ROOM FOR 1 OR MAYBE 2 TEAMS IF UFA DROPS. MAYBE 3 IF <3 DOESNT GO THROUGH. SO ID LIKE TO GET 3 MORE. REGISTRATION CLOSES JANUARY 31

Okay so technically, we have enough for a short season. I don't want that. Give me eight teams and I'll make magic. 4 more, if you are in a unknown caln and want to make some noise, join in!

I don't see why you'd get a lot of hate, but there are several difficulties involved with organizing a minor league. The prime two:

1:New teams, changed teams, etc. Changes are far more common outside of the top 10 or so clans.

2:What is the highest skill level allowed in? Obvious cut-off would be the top 6 from last league aren't allowed but is IL that much better than KLF that IL is barred and KLF isn't? That said, can't really think of another fair cutoff. Middle-tier teams might remove themselves voluntarily anyway.

And of course, there's the huge amount of work associated with running a league. No forum-organized tournament larger than a 8-man 1 shot has worked besides the proleagues, to my knowledge. Make sure you're up for it before you get involved.

Exactly Eso.

The top-tyr (lol pun) teams know who they are, but the mid-tier is pretty blurry.

Youb ring up a valid point on the cut off. I know we have a few new people we would like to get some league experience but would, without any experience, be cut to ribbons in a proleague. I am sure KLF would love to submit a team of some of our newer members to help build up their skill.

Why is this happening? Is it just you want a feeling to win?

I remember when i was younger where i would just love to win, and beat bad teams. Avoid the best. Is there a purpose in being 1st place in a tournament when your really not the best?

I respect that your doing this but will everyone trust you as admins? I wish you luck, and i hope my clan can join as well, seeing we arent ranked in APL or havent even played yet.

By the way, there is going to be 2 divisions hopefully. The top 4 teams get moved up and compete there.

Let me tell you a story of my CounterStrike Source Team. iLag season 9 in CAL, was just a noob team. 4/5 of those starters (not me) went pro, because they upset the best teams. We were in your shoes, where we could not compete. We got better because the best teams were in our league. We worked hard and beat some impressive teams that i cannot imagine beating them ever again.

fLb lot to Sammich... teams are moving up, and IL went to 6th place over FN. Death Weeds a completely hopeless and predicted to not make playofs team did amazing.

This minor league, is just a way of saying, we can beat noobs. Have fun with that.

Better teams are there, to make you better. Learn from your losses, and get better. Don't make 1000 different named clans, and then manage a league, when you can't manage a team.

I'm taking this personally<--

There is competition in running leagues. If anyone wants to take my seat, i will be glad to hand it over to someone who is capable.

Also, teams play only teams with the same record... so when you say it's not fair skill wise, it actually really is.

My clan {$E} doesn't have nearly enough skill to give any competition to ACE, FLB, L*, FN ect. I wanted to give smaller clans (both in size and skill) a chance to have some competitive fun.

That basically sums up the point for you, Evil. Just because its a lower quality league (no offense, York) doesn't mean it can't be successful. The steamers aren't dumb; they know they won't stand a chance against the top teams, and there really isn't much learning going on when they're getting blown out in three minutes tops, or however long it takes 3-4 bombs to spawn.

There's a reason why the NBADL exists, or class A/AA/AAA. There's a reason why the NCAA and HS sports have divisions. It's to give everyone a chance to compete on roughly fair levels. If the new teams feel like they're good enough to play in proleague, by all means they'll have their chance. But forcing them to play in proleague and getting violated is an extremely bad idea, as well as diluting the concept of a "pro"league.

I first want to thank you all for you relatively positive response. Haven't gotten much hate, yet.

Can I ask, why do Steam players need to be involved? Sure they could add some more clans but not having much of an impact.

Seems like you're determined, good luck.

Hope you get alot of clans signed up for some fun and fair competition :D

Thanks. Yea I'm not putting a date on the first match. When i feel that we have enough clans, then we will start.

What exactly constitutes a "minor league clan"? Are we looking at preformance or will there be some arbiter?

Mostly performance. Size also matter a little bit. SWN isn't amazingly skilled but I wouldn't want them in the league because of their size.

I guess anyone but L*, fLb, ACE, Team Sandwich and FN?

Yea. I may also say that any clan in APL can't join. But that isn't very fair so I may let any APL in if they DONT make the playoffs from the prior season.

I don't see why you'd get a lot of hate, but there are several difficulties involved with organizing a minor league. The prime two:

1:New teams, changed teams, etc. Changes are far more common outside of the top 10 or so clans.

Yea I know. So many clans fall apart. That is why, when clans register, they must put how long they have been together. Maybe I'll put a 2 week time period on it? And yea there is a skill limit. I said this in another quote. Any clan who makes play offs in APL can't register for the next Minor. And, I am fully aware how much work is involved in setting this up. I'm totally up for it.

Exactly Eso.

The top-tyr (lol pun) teams know who they are, but the mid-tier is pretty blurry.

Yea it's hard to say who is a "minor" clan. But, if a team isn't in APL, they must be minor.

Youb ring up a valid point on the cut off. I know we have a few new people we would like to get some league experience but would, without any experience, be cut to ribbons in a proleague. I am sure KLF would love to submit a team of some of our newer members to help build up their skill.

Like a "sub-KLF" for the minors? That would be sick. Now that i think of it, any APL team could form a "minor" team. Just like real teams in pro sports have minor teams. And, they can move players between both leagues.

Also, teams play only teams with the same record... so when you say it's not fair skill wise, it actually really is.

I don't think i said it wasn't fair. I just want clans who wouldn't stand a chance in APL to have fun. I wouldn't waste my time putting {$E} in APL just to get whopped every game.

That basically sums up the point for you, Evil. Just because its a lower quality league (no offense, York) doesn't mean it can't be successful. Saturdays are good. I don't want to make Minor games on same says as APL games. I don't even want them to be happening at the same time. I am in no way trying to take anything away from APL. Saturdays would be good since APL plays sundays right?

It's only better for people without a social life

Not really. Wake up saturday, play some altitude, go out and party at night. Seems good to me.

Thanks. In case anyone is wondering, Minor League was started, and then i cancelled it.We had 5 teams and then, 2 dropped out. A 3 teamed league doesn't sound fun to me. If a team drops out in the middle of the season, I would probably just give a forfeit win to any team who plays them in the rest of the season. I don't know yet. The first league was actually the Teamliquid Altitude League, started when a large wave of new players (including yours truly) from www.teamliquid.net started playing in the beta. Since TL is a site for following pro Starcraft, it was quite natural that we'd want to try playing competitive Altitude, so yeah it was an instant hit and lots of TL based teams were formed and signed up in a few days, including ACE and fLb. Of course, the veteran players also made a couple of teams and destroyed us in the semi-finals.

The first APL was the next season after that, and the only teams which stayed together were ACE and fLb, which have since made it to both finals. A lot of new teams had to be made for the APL, and we've seen several of them improve to be finals contenders as well.

It's possible Altitude isn't big enough yet to support two levels of leagues. If this Minor Leagues doesn't take off, you're welcome to sign up for APL 3. Until then, practice and try to scrim as a team. You'll get better fast, and could surprise yourselves with a few of your wins during the league season.

Thanks for the advice, and you're right. Since the steam launch, we've had plenty of new players, but they're still learning to be comfortable with their planes, getting their bearings, etc. I think it'll be a least a bunch of months before we see steamers forming competent clans and actually staying in those clans. Most damning, though, is your own post explaining why you got kicked in the throat: "Me and another guy were diving for a loose rebound..."

The function of the phrase 'another guy' requires that a guy has previously been mentioned, to which this new guy can be related. The only person previously mentioned is yourself. That means you are referring to yourself as a guy.

EDIT: please get back on topic if you'd like to debate my gender do it somewhere else.

I have seen the videos and first, it is definitely a male voice, and second, I have been trying to get Kuja to make them public again ever since he made them private back when they were first discovered. (Credit goes to Redshift for the good find!)

Honestly, he is going to fight you forever on this. He is far too committed to the lie at this point that if he actually came out and told you the truth I think he would feel like it would be too damaging for him. Consequently, when new information or posts like this come out I think that he actually believes the stories he tells, as in "oh it was my boyfriend who shared my email" or "he installed my OS and therefore his name is still the name of the home drive." I even asked him to take a picture of himself one night and send it to me (with a message written on a piece of paper that I would dictate of course). His response "oh I look like **** tonight, how about another night." I think you get the idea. Just give up and go with the reasonable response:

;25994']Thanks for the advice, and you're right. Since the steam launch, we've had plenty of new players, but they're still learning to be comfortable with their planes, getting their bearings, etc. I think it'll be a least a bunch of months before we see steamers forming competent clans and actually staying in those clans. Maybe the Minor League could happen sometime in the future when that happens.....

Without a doubt. Once these steam guys make a few clans, I'm sure Minor League could take off. Sure, some of them will go to APL but most would rather go to ML. Until then, $E will be going to APL3. We are great as a team and maybe we can squeak off a few wins.

Good Idea. Everything starts small. There is always a start to something. Good luck with your idea york.

My advice is that you create new servers named "Minor League" or whatever just so "Proleague" doesn't get jammed or in the way of other clans that aren't minor.

Yea I have a server for it. And, it's running all the time as long as I'm in my house. I'm launching off a laptop so if I leave, the server leaves.

;26052']But how do you keep a server running even when your server launcher isn't open? I mean, Kuja is the host of both proleagues, but his/her/its computer/server launcher can't be running ALL the time, right?

You need like a master server thing. That doesn't matter though. I'll be at all of the matches so launching the server wont be a problem. Who cares if the server isn't up when a match isn't going on.

lol

Kuja isn't the owner of both proleague servers, tec27 is.
He uses a VPS. Check the "Dedicated Server" subforum for more details.

I'm just going to launch the server like an hour before the match starts.

;26060'].....I'll have to not believe ANTHING he/she/it says from now on.....

That's your choice. "it" lies a lot but in the end, who cares.

kuja is indeed (one of) the hosts of the proleague. she/he/whatevers manages the organization part of it.
doesn't necessarily mean that kuja owns the servers. those are owned by tec27 and part of kuja's job is to communicate to tec27 what is needed.

"it" doesn't host the servers, "it" manages the league.

The server launcher is running all the time on my VPS, there's no other way to host servers ;)

Is a VPS a physical thing? Do I have to buy one?

Kuja is a 'he' pretending to be a 'she', you can drop the gender neutral stuff.

Seriously, let's get back on topic.

1. I am a she their just band wagoning against me :(.

2. I do not own/host the servers I moderate them and assist in organizing the leagues.

Who the hell cares, can you start handing out Infractions for people not being on topic.

LIES!!!

Kuja is a girl. He told me himself!!!

"Kuja is a girl........ HE told me HIMself" That doesn't make much sense.

;26106']Does this mean I have permission to start a "Kuja gender" thread in the water cooler?

LOL. You should do it.

It seems this thread has taken a turn of topic: This is now the 'Coming out in Altitude' thread :P

This isn't a good idea. Could you at least find an old desktop to run your server at home?

LOL. Want the whole story? Ok.
I asked my uncle is he had an old Mac lying around (he writes programs so has a lot of computers). He said he'd look. He told me he found one. I was like, stone age or kinda new? He tells me he found a brand new Mac Book Pro. So I'm like, why would you let me buy your new computer. He's like, no, I ordered it for you. I SAY "I DON'T GOT THE MONEY FOR THAT" so he says "I don't want money it's a gift" KAZING..... my uncle is the best. I should get in soon =D.

VPS refers to a specific type of hosting service. VPSes are typically server boxes hosted in a dedicated hosting facility that are split into multiple 'virtual' servers, so that many people can host things on the same server box. If you are actually planning on running a league, I'd highly recommend you run the servers on a VPS at minimum. Without that, the connection is going to be pretty unstable, and pings are going to jump around a fair amount.

As heartwarming a story as it is, a macbook will likely make for a LAGGY server.

Yes, unfortunately its not really ever the computer thats the problem, its the connection. And pretty much no consumer-oriented connection (IE: the internet service you have) will beat a decent VPS in connection speed/stability.

But, (no offense) ProLeague looses connection all the time to. But, something on topic, how much will using a VPS cost me?

Not necessarily. What I am saying is that If I were to post a Topic say "Our President" and everyone started talking about Cars, that would be off topic. Besides as I posted earlier in the week there is already a thread:
