Hey, introducin myself briefly here.
(wall of text incoming)
So I've been playin with Altitude for about a week now, (Btw, I posted a xfire thread to get xfire support for Altitude- maybe that'll bring in more players?)
And I really enjoy it.
However, my 'style' isn't quite reflected in the game, but I think I got the closest match.
I like flying fast, very fast, and doing a lot of damage or shooting a lot of bullets.
The fast plane is the loopy, and I love it but tracking missiles arn't my thing- I decided to settle on the Biplane. Slightly slower, less maneuverable, but just what I want in getting in close and personal.
(On a side note, A loopy with Biplane weapons would be delicious)
But as I was saying, I like flying fast. I like doing maneuvers. Hell, I have more fun running from players than actually killing them. (I just relish what I imagine their frustration must be)
So I can fly pretty good for a level 27. (Just started!) But, I have a couple problems.
-> I can't shoot worth a damn. (But I can fly like no other)
-> I have trouble getting into position.
-> I do hit and run- which is great- but It should be KILL and run, not just damage and LOLSKEDADDLE
So I got a few questions.
This is what my preferred setup would be on my plane.
Recoiless
Flexible Wings
Reverse Thrust
Now I've done some research and it appears I've gone into territory where no one has successfully gone before- extremely low survivability here!
But what I can see is that I can turn sharply, manuever in nearly impossible ways, and swoop into prey with wonderful success with recoilless.
But that comes back to my original problems- the 'Dogfighter' perk, which has saved me from stalling out, (Just aim down and spam D to recoil your way back out of the stall) has one problem- swooping into an enemy is pointless because the recoil makes you lose all or almost all of your momentum. Kind of like charging enemy lines and then settling for a walk when your 10 meters away.
Grrr.
So, using these perks- do I have a chance? Would I be able to get in position and get that ace kill, and bugger out?
I can fly well, but I cant aim too good. (Too busy flying, you see) I can get into a position, but by then my recoil/enemy has made my out of position and thus open to attack.
Any questions, feedback, opinions, flaming, would be really appreciated.

Well, you definitely can do well with that setup. Recoilless + Flexible is very solid, and you can mow through guys with that regardless of what third perk you have. Reverse is kind of a freak perk, though. It's still really just a gimmick imo, and even the very best Reverse users are still kind of middling overall players from what I've seen (although there's still a ton of untapped potential there). Also, IMO it's not very well suited to the red/green perks you've chosen - in particular, you shouldn't really need flexible wings if you can really really master reverse thrust.

maybe u can be a bomb carrier, then u wouldnt need to be able to aim
also, are u the mantoss?

One benefit to reverse thrust that most people don't take into account is that it makes you accelerate and deccelerate at a higher increased rate. So maybe the problem you are having with dogfighter, which is the speed reduction due to recoil, could be offset with the quick burst of speed that reverse thrust gives you.

If you get used to not firing until you're right on top of people, dogfighter is equally good as recoilless imo, just a bit different. Using reverse has 2 drawbacks: your energy will be bad both regen/max wise, so you'll have more trouble getting kills due to that. It's also gimmicky in the sense that it's a very, very bad perk for the team. It's more of a solo rambo kinda thing.. but if you enjoy that, and can deal with the energy deficits, go for it. Oh and like Dio said, if you insist on reverse use repair/heavy armor instead of flexible. Reverse gives a lot of maneouverability.

I see.
Well I've always, in every game i've played, tried to be the guy who does things so differently that they do good- simply because no one has a counter for it. Never do what your enemy expects!
I've never actually used reverse Thrust, so I dont know what its like- but it seems to be that, while it has potential and is great fun, its not a good choice for me at this time, and in general. (Like, "That perk is cool, but why bother. Wait a bit and get to know the game")
The reason I have Dogfighter is simply because I dont have anything else. Its great, and I dont mind it, but the recoil is just bad. Heres my problem with the recoil.
GOOD:
-If im stalling on the ground and cant get up, I just point down and recoil high enough to get out.
-If Im stalling in midair and someone is in front of me, I just point towards them and recoil backwards, (Reverse thrust style) to get out of the way.
-I've dodged missles with the recoil
THE BAD:
-Dive-bombing turns into a cake walk because I lose all my momentem and im just slowly floating along behind the target. Sucks.
-Aiming up is a guaranteed fail.
-Its random and can throw off my flying.
I think the bad outweighs the good- since the bad is when your ACTUALLY IN COMBAT- the rest is when your just avoiding.
One question I've been wrestling with is how can I be the most elusive, flexible person possible?
I've determined that I need good energy reserves to outrun and outwit people, (I've survived for 3 minutes with <10% health looking for a damn health pack. I dodged 2 loops, 1 explodet (Lucky really, he sucked) 3 biplanes, and 1 randa. (The one im proud of:D) I didnt meet a bomber)
So do I want
Turbocharger,
Or Ultracapacitor?
I've heard a lot of things about them, and I canNOT decide which one would be the best for me. Currently I have turbocharger- with the logic being this.
Ultra gives me more firepower (in the form of energy) at the start of almost every fight. I have more energy to begin with, thus more shots.
However once that energy is gone, I'm rather exposed- which a good player can overcome, but I'm both not a good player, and I like SUSTAINED damage- not just high burst. (If you havent noticed, I want to balance the burst of a biplane with a steady energy flow)
So I got turbocharger, which leaves me rather weak on openings, but since my openings are so strong anyway, I thought it outweighed that. It also gives me a faster recovery time, leaving a smaller window for a counterattack.
What do you all think?
And by the way, THANK YOU for your help!

The energy perks have the least impact on your game.. most of the time, you can pick either one and be fine. That said, turbocharger probably has a slight edge over ultra for biplane, and is even better as your aim improves(you need less energy to kill).
Dogfighter is a completely different playstyle than any of the recoilless planes/perks, it's just something to get used to. If you mainly use your primary and only use secondary when you know 100% you are in range, you'll be fine. Firing upwards is generally not a good idea, but dogfighter recoil can help you get in/out much faster than any other plane, provided you have the aim to kill before you start falling back. Chasing bombcarriers and using secondary is also not very good.. just use primary. Not sure what you mean by random as the recoil is very much predictable.
Also suggest you check out Beagle/tyr's biplane guides. As for your PM sure.. if you can find me!

well, im not really a biplane user, but i do know that you can use recoil to your advantage. One, it does more damage. two, if you are going at someone head on, it slows you down so you can do more damage (the same thing when you are going from above) the problem is when you are attacking from behind, or below. try to avoid those situations. now, i know you are new to the game, but there is another biplane perk you unlock later. i think its called heavy cannon, but basically its a high damage, high recoil weapon, and it has a long cooldown time. but it is perfect for when you go at someone with the short range gun, and if they are still alive after that, snipe them out with the cannon, and finish the job. just some things to think about. I recommend practicing with recoil. the damage increase is noticeable in-game, and you dont have to worry about stalling, because the other person is already dead.

So basically, I just have to learn how to aim correctly.
From what I can tell at personal reflection, I think im doing pretty much okay, i'm just missing. which, obviously, is bad. I'm waiting for flex. wings though, cause I like getting right on top of people (Kinky ;] ) so they can't fire, and panic and try to manuever out of it- since im often stalled from recoil or my bad flying- i can just point and shoot. But without flex wings I cant turn fast enough.
Oh well xD
Good advice though, I didnt know dogfighter did more damage than recoilless.
Is there a page which shows the statistics of all the perks? (Flex wings adds x amount of agi or w/e)

Also, this may be obvious or it might not be. But when you are close to someone to you be pressing both F and D at the same time. This is the highest DPS in the game other than Miranda's F+Up (someone correct me if I am wrong).

Ya I try this sometimes- but I refrain from it more often than not because
a) I need to conserve energy for the other guy shooting at me
b) I dont have much energy to begin with (Afterburned into the battle)
Oh- A different question.
I'm trying to wrestle with Heavy Armor and Repair Bots until I get flex wings- and I know its personal preference but I cant tell.
Heavy armor lets you get in a more serious fight and last longer, take some hits while fleeing, etc. But a repair bot lets you get in, get out, and after a moment let you get right back in the action.
But, but but, heavy armor actually is keeping you alive when your actually FIGHTING- repair bots only are useful when you're not (I generally afterburn for a split second or two in a dogfight, to rotate faster. This is harmless to my energy reserves, but it resets the time between repairs- i think.)
Or maybe thats just a dumb question and I should play more and figure it out myself, Idk.

I think that repair drone becomes less and less useful as you progressively get better at the game. This is because your situational awareness will increase and you will know which battles you can survive and you also learn to pick up battle field health packs as you go along. And when that fails you can just fly back to base when you know there isn't much of a threat to your base in TBD. The only plane that I still use repair drone on is explodet and there are a few reasons. An explodet is most effective when it is abusing the terrain around it. This means if you are spending time trying to collect health cookies on the battle field that you are diminishing your effectiveness. On top of that, it is the highest health plane, so if you are skilled with it you should come out of most battles with some health left and you can just regen it using the repair bot. Also, with it being so slow, it is often times not advantageous to go back to the base because you lose so much time on the battle field. As it stands right now I use flex wings on biplane and heavy armor on loopy, bomber and miranda. However, there are situations where you want to use repair drone on miranda such as bomb running or if you are just playing "sniper" and not really engaging or pushing with your team (all of which I don't really do all that much.)
So in my opinion use Heavy Armor for now. It will teach you to be more careful and at the same time it will teach you to become more aware of things like health packets on the battle field. Repair Drone to me is the lazy man's perk and is a crutch for not playing the game all that well (except for the aforementioned explodet).
